I only discovered Dizzee this year, my first introduction to him was his 2008 single ”Dance Wiv Me”. From then on, Dizzee and I have been good friends. I went from his new dancey stuff to discovering his old grime. And while I don’t have Dizzee’s whole discography, I’ve got his debut album Boy In Da Corner which is very, very impressive. It’s basically a masterpiece. One of my favourite albums of the decade. So, Tongue N’ Cheek had a lot to live up to. While I had heard his progression from grime to more dancey stuff through ‘Flex’, ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and ‘Bonkers’, I still had high hopes for Dizzee’s latest album. And, I was pleasantly surprised that Tongue N’ Cheek wasn’t full of dance numbers. There’s some grimey stuff in there, with some great beats courtesy of producers like Tiesto, Armand Van Helden, Calvin Harris and Cage? Cage is a producer now? My favourite track from the album is definitely ‘Dirtee Cash’. I somehow didn’t really notice on my first play through, but I heard it on the radio and I was hooked. ‘Bad Behaviour’ and ‘Money, Money’ are also insanely catchy. My problem with Tongue N’ Cheek is something a lot of artists go through, a change in subject matter. Now all Dizzee talks about is cars, girls and money. It’s fine for a while but gets very repetitive and Dizzee is also very dirty. He talks about blowjobs and more which is ok, I was just suprised. I’m looking forward to seeing Dizzee next year at the Big Day Out. It should be awesome, and Calvin Harris will also be there so they’ll probably join up to perform ‘Dance Wiv Me’. Score: 7/10 |
